About Us

When the world went quiet in 2020, we found a new way to speak.

Katawano was born during COVID — a time when face masks became part of daily life, but nothing on the market reflected who we were. Plain. Disposable. Forgettable. For those of us rooted in Ghanaian heritage, wearing a mask felt like erasing ourselves. So we made our own.

Katawano means "cover your mouth" in Twi — but wearing one of our masks has never felt like covering up. Each piece is handcrafted from authentic kente cloth and mudcloth, fabrics woven with centuries of West African tradition. Bold geometric patterns, rich jewel tones, and motifs that carry meaning far beyond fashion.

This is for anyone who has ever wanted their everyday accessories to say something. For the diaspora keeping culture close. For the fashion lover drawn to print and pattern. For the person who refuses to blend in, even in a face covering.

Kente cloth. Unapologetically worn.
